Islamabad—The Attorney General of Pakistan, Senator Latif Khan Khosa on Tuesday said that with the abolishment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) would meet its natural fate.

The NRO promulgated by former President Pervez Musharraf would be revoked as all political forces were agreed for eliminating it (NRO),” Khosa said.

Talking to newsmen here at the Supreme Court, the Attorney General clarified that NRO was not a law unto itself. Amendments were made in NAB under NRO by the former President Musharraf, he said.

Filling of the vacant posts of judges within 30 days is a legal requirement”, he said and added judges who were appointed on the recommendations of former Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and later sacked can be re-appointed.

Khosa further said, the summary of new judges from Punjab and NWFP has been prepared and would be forwarded to President Asif Ali Zardari soon.

On the issue of appointments of law officers in the provinces, he said the Chief Minister’s advice is binding on the Governor Salman Taseer.

Replying a query, he said, the United Nations investigation commission has complete access to all individuals and documents inside Pakistan. No official is outside of the purview of the UN probe commission’s mandate, he added.

Attorney General said, the probe commission will present its report to the UN Security Council through the Secretary General who will also send a copy of the report to the Government of Pakistan.

He said the investigation launched by the government also has a wide scope and no one can claim constitutional immunity if found involved in the assassination of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Responding to a question regarding action against former President Pervez Musharraf under Article-6, he said the government believes in consultation and a unanimous resolution in this regard should be presented in the Parliament.
