LAHORE: Media is the fourth pillar of the state, and has performed admirably by playing a responsible, active and impartial role during every crisis, Peoples Lawyers Forum (PLF) Punjab President Khurram Latif Khan Khosa said on Thursday.
He told a reception in honour of print and electronic media journalists that the journalistic community had always raised its voice against fascism, and had refused to bow before dictatorships. He said senior journalists had not only faced torture, they had even sacrificed their lives in the name of their career.
Khosa also condemned the Punjab government for mistreating journalists, and urged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to apologise for the abuse rendered at the hand of the Punjab police. He asked the provincial government to terminate the police officials concerned, and initiate legal proceedings against them within three days. He said if the government failed to launch an inquiry, the PLF would stage a sit-in in front of CM's Secretariat. PLF Punjab office-bearers Nasir Awan, Rana Sufyan Arshad and Shaista Qaiser, and Pakistan People’s Party leaders Samiullah Khan and Chaudhary Asghar were also present at the occasion. staff report
