LAHORE
THE Federal and Punjab governments have finalized the project for installation of latest water filtration plants at union council level in the province at a cost of Rs.12 billion on Friday.
Project Director Local Government Project Management Unit and representatives of five selected companies signed the agreement for installation of 3494 water filtration plants in the province during current fiscal year and this project will be completed by 2010.
A nine-member committee headed by Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa has been constituted for the supervision of the project “Clean Drinking Water for All” of Punjab government. The committee will include Minister for Finance, Minister for Local Government, Chief Secretary Punjab, Chairman Planning & Development Board, Secretary Finance, Secretary Local Government.
Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, presiding over a meeting of the committee, said the project was of paramount importance, as a result of which clean drinking water would be available to the people round-the-clock. He said five companies would install these plants in Northern Punjab, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, ICT, Central Punjab-I, Central Punjab-II, Southern Punjab and the areas of saline water.
