KARACHI: Partial strike was witnessed in few areas of Karachi against the assassination attempt on Chairman JSQM (Jaye Sindh Qaumi Mahaz), Bashir Qureshi on Saturday, in news given call for the protest demonstration against the killing of its workers.
During the protest demonstration, Chairman JSQM, Bashir Qureshi was leading the protest rally, which when approached Hazoora, some unknown persons riding a bike opened fired at the rally, killing party’s office bearer. In retaliation one of the assailants was killed on the spot while another who suffered injuries, was arrested.
After the incident JSQM announced two day long strike and seven days mourning. As a result, partial shutter down strike was observed in Gulshan Hadeed, Shah Latif Town, Bin Qasim Town, Gulistan-e-Johar, Hazoora Goth, Sameel, Sikandar Goth and some areas of Malir.
There are also reports of aerial firing by unknown persons. However, no untoward incident was reported due to deployment of heavy contingent of police force.
When Online contacted DPO Shah Faisal Abdul Qayyum, he told that SSP Investigation Niaz Khosa was investigating the incident. When Online contacted Niaz Khosa he told that he was busy in meeting and will be available later on.
Police told that the assailant who was gunned down by participants of rally was identified as Mustafa Zahid who was arrested in 2004 on murder charges and released some eight months ago.
It is said that police was avoiding to make the facts public.
