ISLAMABAD: Attorney General Latif Khosa on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court that he would take up the matter of promoting a lady officer of the National Accountancy Bureau (NAB) with the relevant authorities.
A three-member bench of the SC, consisting of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, was hearing a suo motu case of Aliya Rashid, an additional director at NAB.
The court adjourned the hearing until September 1 after the attorney general sought a week’s time. Khosa told the court that the petitioner was the only lady officer in NAB who had been appointed to a Grade 19 post, assuring that he was taking up the matter with the higher authorities for consideration of her promotion to Grade 20 in NAB. Hafiz SA Rehman represented the petitioner in the case. At the last hearing, Khosa had admitted in court that retired junior army officers were promoted to Grade 20 without taking the required courses of the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), whereas Aliya was being denied a promotion.
